Klystron and High Current Density Backward Wave Oscillator Simulation with CST STUDIO SUITE®

While Magnetrons, TWT’s or low current BWO’s can be simulated quite easily with a PIC code, it becomes more tricky for Klystrons or high current density BWO’s. In contrast to Magnetrons the particles move axially and interact also with the fields along this direction. In addition, these devices exhibit either a long interaction region or high current. In such cases, the numerical dispersion inherent in every PIC or FDTD code can adversely affect the simulation. The mitigation of that effect within CST STUDIO SUITE® will be shown.
