CST PARTICLE STUDIO® The Particle-in-Cell (PIC) solver

This solver is the most sophisticated of the CST PARTICLE STUDIO® (CST PS) modules. The mutual coupling between particles and electromagnetic fields is taken into account in this self consistent particle-in-cell code.

With several emission models such as DC, series of Gaussian bunches, field emission and user defined emissions, virtually any particle source can be modeled. The particles can interact with a combination of electrostatic, magnetostatic, eigenmode, transient electromagnetic and user defined fields.

This solver benefits from advanced functionality embedded in CST MICROWAVE STUDIO® (CST MWS):

  • Dispersive materials, lossy metal material etc can be used
  • Output signals and power can be evaluated by means of waveguide ports
  • Powerful postprocessing tools are available

Typical applications are klystrons, travelling wave tubes, and backward wave oscillators.
